Kirsti Burnett

Project Consultant

B.Sc. Marine Biology, Dalhousie University | M.Sc. Marine Biology, University of Bremen

I’m a marine biologist and ocean conservationist with a passion for aiding the development of science-based, community-oriented solutions to support healthy oceans. Growing up on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore inspired a lifelong connection to the ocean, eventually guiding me toward a B.Sc. in Marine Biology at Dalhousie University, Canada, and an M.Sc. in Marine Biology from the University of Bremen in Germany.

My experience spans international research and collaborative conservation projects. I’ve co-led multinational field research initiatives in Cabo Verde, West Africa, focused on threatened shark and ray species. I’ve also supported strategic initiatives focused on Indigenous fisheries, sustainable management of species at risk, and the development of evidence-based approaches to improve marine governance and coastal community resilience.

Whether I’m using my interdisciplinary background to support complex multi-stakeholder projects, compiling data to inform decision-making, drafting reports that translate science into action, or planning research initiatives, I strive to bring a thoughtful and organized approach to every project.
